Beyazıt & Grand Bazaar
The quarter around the Grand Bazaar and Beyazıt Square is old Istanbul at full volume: sixty-odd covered streets, carpet dealers, jewellers and the great Süleymaniye Mosque on the hill above. Guests stay in characterful small hotels and restored townhouses on the slopes towards the Golden Horn. A day of bargaining, climbing and walking can be tiring, and a drip in the room afterwards is a quiet way to reset.
The bazaar itself closes in the evening and its gates are shut, so the nurse comes to your hotel, never into the market. Hill streets around Süleymaniye are steep and narrow; a precise pin on WhatsApp saves time. Many guests book for late afternoon, after the shopping is done and before dinner on a rooftop facing the Bosphorus.
