An IV drip on a Bosphorus yacht: how it works on the water
5 min read

A day on the Bosphorus has its own rhythm: a late breakfast at the marina, a slow run past the yalı mansions of Bebek and Kandilli, lunch at anchor, a long golden hour. It also has its own demands on the body. Sun off the water, wind that hides how much you sweat, a glass of champagne that becomes three. An IV drip on board fits into that day quietly, if it is planned with the same care as the rest of the charter. Here is how Bosphorus Drip does it.
Moored or cruising: how the nurse comes aboard
The simplest visit is at the berth. If the yacht is moored at İstinye, Kuruçeşme, Bebek or Kalamış, the nurse arrives at the marina gate, is met by a crew member and walks on board. From central districts this usually takes about 60 minutes from the moment the doctor approves the booking.
If you are already out on the water, we coordinate directly with the captain. The yacht can pick the nurse up from an agreed jetty, or send the tender to collect them. We ask for the captain’s or the crew’s WhatsApp number so timing and the meeting point are confirmed in one short thread, not passed through several people.
Timing the drip around sun, sea and champagne
The best moment for a drip on a yacht is rarely the middle of the party. Many guests book it in the morning, before the boat leaves or while it is still at anchor, to start the day rested and well hydrated. Others book it for the late afternoon, on the way back, when the sun has dropped and the cabin is cool.
An infusion takes 45 to 60 minutes for most drips. During that time you sit or recline and stay still, with the cannula in your arm. It is worth planning around swims, tender rides and lunch, so nobody has to choose between the drip and the sea.
What the space on board should look like
The nurse needs very little, but a few details make the visit calmer and safer.
- A stable seat or a bed with back support, ideally in the saloon or a cabin, or on a shaded part of the deck.
- Shade. Direct sun on the arm and the bag is not comfortable and warms the fluid.
- A place to hang the bag or a hook above head height; the nurse brings a stand if there is room.
- The yacht at anchor or moving slowly in calm water while the line is in.
- Water and something light to eat nearby.
Heat, wind and hydration
On deck, the breeze makes the heat feel milder than it is. Guests often realise only in the evening how much fluid they have lost, usually with a headache and heavy legs. A drip replaces fluid and electrolytes directly and may help you feel steadier for the rest of the day, but it does not replace drinking water. The nurse will remind you to keep a bottle close, and to stay in the shade for a while afterwards.
Charter days and groups
On a birthday cruise or a family charter, several guests often want a drip at the same time. We send more nurses so that nobody waits through the afternoon, and each guest fills in their own short questionnaire, which the doctor reviews separately. Prices are per person, with the visit included anywhere in Istanbul. For larger yacht parties and events, we price on request and plan the visit with the captain or the charter organiser in advance.
What to tell us, and when we say no
When you message us on WhatsApp, tell us where the yacht is or will be, the name of the boat, the captain’s contact, how many guests, and the time you have in mind. Mention any medication, allergies or recent procedures in the questionnaire. A doctor reviews every booking before the nurse sets out.
Some days the answer is no, or not yet. We do not start a drip in rough water or a strong swell, when the boat cannot hold steady. We do not put a line in a guest who is heavily intoxicated, confused or unable to give clear consent; we would rather come back in the morning. And if anyone on board has chest pain, difficulty breathing or any sign of an emergency, call 112 straight away. IV therapy is a wellness service, not emergency care. If the doctor declines a booking, there is no charge.
Which drips suit a day on the water
Hangover Rescue (€320, 45 minutes) is the most requested on the morning after a long evening on deck, with fluids, electrolytes and an anti-nausea option. The signature Hammam Detox (€390, 60 minutes) is a slower, more restorative infusion that many guests choose for the quiet hours of a charter. Energy Boost (€310, 45 minutes) suits a long day with a dinner still ahead. Add-ons such as an extra 500 ml of fluids (€60) are often useful in summer heat.
Questions
Can the nurse come to a yacht that is already cruising?
Yes. We coordinate with the captain, and the nurse is collected from an agreed jetty or by tender. The drip itself starts once the yacht is at anchor or moving slowly in calm water.
Is it safe to have a drip after drinking on board?
After a few drinks, often yes, once the doctor has reviewed your answers. If a guest is heavily intoxicated or confused, we will not start the drip and suggest the next morning instead.
Can several guests on the same charter have a drip?
Yes. We send more than one nurse for groups, so guests can have their drips at the same time. Each guest is reviewed by the doctor separately.
How do I pay for a visit on a yacht?
Payment is on the day, by card or in cash, per person in euros. The visit is included anywhere in Istanbul, and a night visit between 00:00 and 07:00 adds €60.
